Does anyone know what occurs in the body when one places his or her face in a bowl of cold water and holds their breath?

How long do you have to hold your face in the water for that benefit, as long as you can hold your breath for? This sounds so much more appealing than a full body cold plunge. It's a start.

Much more for those with heart issues as sudden full body cold temps prove lethal. A coworker of mine lost her dad that way. She couldn't figure it out - he passed away retrieving an oar he went after, was an excellent swimmer, etc. Until he hit a cold patch in the water.
