Hi Dr.,
Is there a reason you emphasize oatmeal over oat bran?
Oat bran contains about 5–7 grams of beta-glucan per 100 grams, while oatmeal contains only about 2–4 grams per 100 grams.
It seems that oat bran could help achieve your cholesterol-lowering goal faster due to its higher fiber content.
In terms of satiation, 1/3 cup of oat bran provides 150 calories and 5 grams of protein, whereas you'd need half a cup of oatmeal to get the same nutritional value. Any thoughts on that?
