Which one of them focuses more on the medical side of the treatment? If you answered psychiatry, then you are mistaken. Psychiatry is the branch of medicine that revolves focusing on mental illnesses such as treating behavioral disorders, stress, depression, and anxiety attacks. Neurology is the branch of medicine that concerns the brain and the nervous system, which includes their functions and the diseases that affect them. Neurology focuses on identifying health issues involved with the muscles, nerves, and brain, which are important for people’s everyday functioning. Neurology focuses more on the health of the people rather than on their behavioral issues period Psychiatry is one of the newer branches of medicine which emerged in the 19th century. It is concerned with the diagnosis and

The full podcast with Karl was one of your best. You should definitely do a follow up to see how things have progressed in the two major fields he pioneered.

You should also get Feng Zhang who helped him develop Opto genetics and then went on to be one of the biggest figures in crispr

Dr. Huberman, could you explore the link between TMJ, cervical spine dysfunction, and stored trauma? I’m especially curious how specific vertebrae might impact things we don’t usually associate with the spine—like swallowing, breathing, or focus. Your work means a lot—thank you.

I can't wait to listen to this podcast. I was misdiagnosed by a psychiatrist and at the end of the day is all menopause related. I think it's hard for these professionals to diagnose!!! I hope they get better ways of measuring mental illness ❤ soon thank you dear Andrew

Yep- hormones are SO related to the mind/ hence the saying someone is “hormonal” is equated to “mental.” Joking. but so much of “bipolar” is relevant to hormonal changes- ADHD meds work differently during different times in your cycle- estrogen plays a huge role in brain functioning- causing mental fog etc when low, there is so much- not to mention thyroid.

I consider myself a little of all things but diagnosed bipolar. I can relate at times to autism spectrum, and something you said about a friend who may not get as triggered by a partner as someone not on the spectrum, like them. I keep my presence in line more since at work as a server with the spectrum and don't get triggered hardly ever by anyone. It's amazing combined with the intuitive nature I'm tapping into that shows me there's a third party presence adding to our cbt. I see some coworkers struggle with ANTS and am keeping positive we can bridge science with woo woo.

I have ADHD since I was a kid. Now I'm 58 almost, and I swear, my brain stills like when I was a kid. Hyper. But sometimes, it hits me so bad I get overwhelmed, and I can't think or function. I don't take meds. I learned to control it with supplements and exercises. Eating habits. I can mentally multi task and listen to loud music while studying or at work. I'm even learning a new language. I am a data analyst/ inspector.

Thank you. Very interesting. Please consider hosting a collaboration (NOT a debate) with some of the psychiatrists you previously have interviewed: Drs. Daniel Amen, Karl Deisseroth, and Paul Conti. It would be interesting to meld the processes used by each; such as brain scans, vagal stimulation, psychedelics, nutrition, various talk therapies, etc. Again, not as a competition or debate; rather a cooperative effort that may lead to better combination diagnosis and treatment methods. Thank you
